Rebels return to Dawson County Speedway
By the URSS
OBERLIN — If drivers in the United Rebel Sprint Series are needing a speed rush, they need look no further than the dirt track in Lexington, Neb. And this Sunday, the dirt oval at Dawson County Speedway will feature the return of the Rebels.
“It's just a big, fast track,” said driver Zach Blurton. “It's all about staying straight and not losing momentum. You just have to stay on the gas.”
Sunday's race will be the third one this season for the URSS. Jason Martin won the opener at Beaver County Raceway in Beaver, Okla., in April, while Jeff Radcliffe won the second day of the Cow Chip Spring Nationals event and took home $1,500.
Blurton battled engine issues at the season-opener, but the Jetmore driver said he expects that to all be fixed by this weekend. “It's going to be good to get back going with the URSS again,” he said.
The URSS last raced at Dawson County Speedway on Aug. 14. Darren Berry took home the win that night. Berry expects to compete Sunday, unless his wife goes into labor with their child. “I should hopefully get back up there and hopefully have a good run,” he said. “We've been running good the rest of the year.” Berry, much like Blurton, said he expects the race to be fast-paced. “It's pretty smooth and fast,” he said about the track. “It's got a little bank to it, but not too big. You should be able to flat-foot it around there.”
Lexington has played host to 10 URSS races since 2007, with Smokey Fairbank winning the inaugural race. The track hosted the Rebels twice last year, with C.J. Johnson taking home the win May 22, followed by Berry on Aug. 14.
Blurton is hoping the weekend is a slingshot into the remainder of the season, and perhaps a good start at a run at a possible URSS national title. “The last few years I've been trying to get used to the car and drivers and how we race,” he said. “Now I feel I have better experience for this year.”
Radcliffe and Johnson are tied with 292 points each in the national title standings after two events, while defending champ Ray Seemann is second with 284.

Southern Ontario Sprints Set to Kick-Off 17th Season in Style
When the green flag drops at Autodrome Granby for the Can-Am Sprint Car Challenge this Friday, May 11 it will mark the beginning of the 17th season of competition for The Southern Ontario Sprints (SOS); Canada’s longest running sprint car organization. The 2 day, $5,000 to win race will be co-sanctioned with The Empire Super Sprints (ESS) and Patriot Sprint Tour (PST) Sprint Cars of New England (SCONE) and The Corr/Pak Sprints of Ohswken Speedway (CP).
“I can’t think of a better way to kick off our 17th season,” stated Southern Ontario Sprints President Mike Ferrell. “Ontario and Quebec have really become a strong hold for sprint car racing and I’m very pleased that the area has another marquee event and that we could be a part of it.”
The 2 day race will conclude Saturday evening with a 30 lap A-Main that will feature a $25,000 purse with a $5,000 share going to the winner. The Friday evening preliminary night will include qualifying, heat race events and twin 15 lap features paying $500 to win along with a guarantee of a top 10 starting spot in Saturday night’s finale. The Saturday night will include group time trials and B Main(s) to lock in the 28 car starting field for the $5,000 to win, $500 to start main event.
Drivers meeting will be 6pm on Friday. Fuel and tires are available at the track. This event is included in the 2012 Southern Ontario Sprints Schedule as a show-up points event for the Saturday feature. Teams must be 2012 SOS members and registed as an SOS entry prior to event to qualify for points. Drivers can see Mike or Loree Ferrell at the track to register.
“Whoever wins the A Main is going to earn their money,” said Ferrell. “You have cars coming from all over. There will be several states and provinces represented and I think it really says a lot about how far sprint car racing has come our area in terms of the level of competition and the organizations working together.”
Over the past 2 decades Quebec has earned a reputation as one of the true hotbeds of sprint car racing as they have produced several great sprint car drivers and events typically run in front of capacity crowds.
“There will definitely be electricity in the air,” said Ferrell. “Quebec fans are die-hards and are very passionate about sprint car racing. I can’t think of a better area to host an event of this magnitude.”
The Can-Am Sprint Car Challenge will also kick off what should be an intense battle for the 2012 Southern Ontario Sprints Championship. “General” Lee Ladouceur of Alexandria, Ontario captured his first ever SOS championship last season but will face stiff competition as he tries to defend his title against the likes of 2-time Southern Ontario Sprints champion Warren Mahoney, last year’s series runner-up Travis Cunningham, 2-time SOS feature winner Chris Jones and veteran Bob Crawford.
“I am really looking forward to this year’s championship chase,” said Ferrell. Traditionally The SOS championship chase has always been very close and there have been some wild finishes. I have no idea who will win this year’s title but I am sure that whoever does will have to be on top of their game.”

Seeman See's Victory in Inaugural NCRA 305 Sprint Opener
Raymond Seeman of Jetmore, Kansas took advantage of a lap five crash that took out the two leaders to win the inaugural event for the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products 305 sprint car feature Saturday night at 81 Speedway in Park City.
By virtue of earning the most finishing and passing points during heat race action, Jason Martin of Liberal, Kansas started on the pole for the twenty lap feature and quickly set sail from the rest of the field.
Third starting Ty Williams settled into the runner up position as Seeman and outside front row starter Tyler Knight gave chase.
Only one lap would be completed when the first caution flag fell for Koby Walters spin in turn two.
When racing action resumed Martin again stayed out front but Williams was just three car lengths back and started to use the high side of the three-eighths mile oval to reel in the leader.
Williams got his chance entering turns three and four on lap four and was credited with the lead coming down the front stretch. However, Martin was determined not to be denied and entering turns one and two, attempted to execute a slide job. However, both drivers made contact sending both into a wild series of flips with Williams landing on top of the concrete wall off the track at the top of turn two.
Both drivers walked away uninjured but were done for the night.
The restart handed the lead to Seeman with Knight, Zach Blurton and Conner Atkinson giving chase. Seeman would open a half stretch lead on lap nine before the caution would was for a second spin by Walters.
On the restart Seeman again set sail and opened a sizeable lead over Knight while behind them, sixth starting Brian Herbert would dispose of Blurton to take the third position.
A couple laps later the final caution of the night would wave when Jordan Randles spun in turns one and two.
The final restart saw Seeman, aboard the #72 Alvarez Upholstery/Phillips Chiropractic/M.A.P.S. Inc. sponsored Coker powered Eagle chassis motor away from the field and would go on to lead the final six laps to take the $1000 victory.
Herbert got around Knight with four laps to go and tried hard to erase Seeman's full stretch lead but would fall five car lengths short at the finish line.
"I thought I might have something for Martin but Williams was probably too fast for me to catch," said Seeman in victory lane on whether or not he could have contended for the win if not for the crash. "My crew told me on that red flag to stay put so I just held my line. I could keep hitting turns three and four harder and harder, it was really fast up there."
Josh Fairbank put on a passing clinic as the Wichita, Kansas driver started tenth and worked his way up to a third place finish. Knight settled for fourth while Blurton came away with a fifth place finish.
Heat races for the fifteen car field were won by Williams and Knight.
The next event for the NCRA 305 sprint car series will take place on Saturday night, June 9, once again at 81 Speedway.
A Feature: 1) Raymond Seeman (Jetmore, Ks), 2) Brian Herbert (Dodge City, Ks), 3) Josh Fairbank (Wichita, Ks), 4) Tyler Knight (Wright, Ks), 5) Zach Blurton (Jetmore, Ks), 6) Kris Miller (Woodward, Ok), 7) Connor Atkinson, 8) Kasey Beckham (Andover, Ks), 9) Kaden Taylor (Forgan, Ok), 10) Mike Spear (Lincoln, Ks), 11) Kip Hughes (Enid, Ok), 12) Koby Walters (Liberal, Ks), 13) Jordan Randles (Sublette, Ks), 14) Jason Martin (Liberal, Ks), 15) Ty Williams (Liberal, Ks),

BOBBY BREEN TOPS FORTY CAR FIELD TO WIN SPRING SPRINT CHALLENGE FIRDAY NIGHT AT BLACK ROCKS SPEEDWAY
Bobby Breen of Savannah, NY was in the hunt to win the 25 lap Spring Sprint Challenge Friday night the Black Rock Speedway and it pretty much went his way on lap eighteen when race leader George Suprick flipped in turn three. Once Breen took the top spot, he ran unchallenged for the final eight laps to score an impressive first win under the Rislone URC Sprint Series banner. A field of forty cars took part in the racing program with URC providing fifteen competitors, actually three more cars then the URC group attracted for this same event 2011.
Heat race wins went to Steve Collins, Kevin Ward, URC’s 2011 Rookie of the Year Troy Betts and Bobby Breen. The Pizza Logs Dash Winner was Don Adamczyk as the Bar’s Leaks dual “B” Mains were won by Josh Weller and Ed Aikin.
The Black Rock event Friday night officially kicked off the 65th season for the Rislone URC Sprint Series. A well prepared race track set the stage for what was going to be an exciting event. At the drop of the green flag, George Suprick immediately set the pace and established himself as race leader, taking the top spot away from pole sitter Troy Betts. Steve Collins ran a determined second place until Bobby Breen moved into second on lap eight.
Just one circuit later, Breen was challenging Suprick for the lead. With the leaders now deep behind slower traffic, the race for the lead was developing into a real battler.
The first caution of the feature event was displayed on lap eleven for Troy Betts who spun. On the restart, Suprick was especially fast and now had a clear track ahead. Both Suprick and Breen were in a battle and as the leaders crossed the line for the halfway sign, Jared Zimbardi, Bryan Howland and Steve Collins followed in the top five.
Deep in the pack, URC favorite Josh Weller was on a charge after starting twenty-fourth. At the halfway mark, Weller was racing in the top fifteen. The leaders once again had to deal with slower traffic and the turning point of the race was fast approaching. On lap eighteen, Suprick entered turn three and after contact with another car, the Suprick sprinter flipped. The red flag was displayed and Suprick walked away uninjured. Breen now inherited the lead.
When green flag racing resumed, Breen set the pace with Zimbardi now chasing down the leader with Bryan Howland, Scott Kreutter and Justin Barger also in chase of the leaders. With just five laps remaining, Zimbardi was trying to pull off a challenge to Breen, but it was not going to happen in the final laps.
For the final five laps, Zimbardi ran high and low looking for the fast lane to Challenge Breen for the top spot. With the checker flag waiving, the win went to Bobby Breen over Jared Zimbardi, Bryan Howland, Scott Kreutter and Justin Barger. The top ten included Don Adamczyk, Ryan Bohlke, Charlie Donk, Steve Collins and twenty-fourth place starter, Josh Weller powered into the top ten.

It’s C.J. All the Way in NCRA Sprints at 81 Speedway
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Park City, Kansas – April 28, 2012 - Two-time and defending series champion C.J. Johnson of Quinter, Kansas started on the pole and was never seriously challenged and he wired the rest of the twenty car field to win his first National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas sprint car feature Saturday night at 81 Speedway in Park City.
Johnson, aboard the #45x JSE Racing Products/Pizza Hut/Quinter Auto Parts/Martin Farms sponsored ASI engine powered JE racing chassis sprinter, out ran outside front row starter Mike Peters into turn one and quickly set sail on the rest of the field to start the twenty-five lap feature. Ty Williams, making his first series appearance on the season, followed in third with Jason Martin and Jeremy Campbell giving chase.
But Johnson would open up a half stretch lead by lap two while running the low side of the track.
The first caution of the feature finale fell on lap six when Brodix rookie of the year contender Wyatt Burks came to a stop at the top of turn two.
Johnson once again throttled away from the rest of the field on the restart and quickly opened a half stretch lead while Peters, Campbell and Martin battled for the runner up position.
Campbell would get by Peters for the runner up position on lap fifteen before the next caution slowed the pace one lap later when Patrick Stasa spun to a stop in turn two.
The restart saw Martin power by Peters on the high side in turns one and two to take over the third position and gave chase to Campbell as Johnson once again motored away from the field.
Three more cautions would be shown in the next five completed laps before Martin looked to make his move into the runner up position on lap twenty-one and briefly did so by getting by the Campbell sprinters. But before that lap was completed the final caution of the night fell when the front end of Taylor Milton’s #97x collapsed to end his night.
On the final restart there was no catching Johnson as he led the final four laps unchallenged to score his 13th career series victory and an early momentum compared to last year’s championship run.
“The car was setup for the bottom and that is where we were committed,” said Johnson in victory lane. “Starting on the pole was the key and I kept watching to see if the bottom would go away but it never did. This gives us early momentum, something we didn’t have last year.”
Campbell crossed the line second ahead of Martin, Peters and Williams.
Perhaps one of the most exciting moments for the large crowd that gathered at the speedway happened in both twelve lap “B” features.
Haley Arnold, the young lady from Sedalia, Missouri started third in the first “B” feature and was the only driver up front to make the top side of the three-eighths mile to work and made her way to the front in taking home the victory. Her sister, Miranda, looked to make it a sister sweep of the “B’s” but settled for a strong runner up finish. Both ladies transferred to their first career NCRA sprint car “A” feature greeted with a standing ovation.
A.J. Selenke and Burks took the final two transfer positions in the first “B” feature while Ryan Roberts captured the victory in the second “B” feature with Cody Forshee grabbing the final transfer spot.
The next stop for the NCRA sprint car series will take place on Friday of Memorial Day weekend, May 25th, during the second annual “Sprint Car Mania” at RPM Speedway in Hays, Kansas.
